Eight Kimball bowlers joined one from Sidney and one from Burns, Wyo. to share $1,000 in prize money at the Kimball Hospital Foundation’s 9-pin no-tap bowling tournament.
Greg McDaniel, new owner of the Kim Bowl bowling alley, displayed not only his bowling talents but also his generosity by rolling seven 300 games and taking first place in the men’s singles and adult doubles divisions, then donating all of his winnings back to the Foundation.
Several bowlers rolled multiple 300 games in the 9-pin no-tap tournament, a fun format in which the bowler gets credit for a strike even if he or she knocks down just nine pins. Proceeds will help purchase a new bathing spa for patients at Kimball Health Services.
Gardner rolled three 300 games in a row to win the men’s singles division, and along with Kimball’s Brennan McDonald, scored 290-300-300 for his part in winning the adult doubles division with a combined handicap total of 1,741.
McDonald himself had three 300 games over the two weekends, Kimball’s Mitch Brown and Kelly Garrett each had two, Clay Keane of Sidney had two, and Kimball’s Sonny Porter, Austin Pile, Chuck Frakes and Larry Walker, along with James Jacob of Burns, all had one.
In addition to the perfect 300 game prize fund, sponsored by Regional West Health Services, leading bowlers in each division were awarded cash prizes on a 1 of 6 ratio. Several chose to donate all or a portion of their winnings back to the Foundation.
Jacob took second place in the men’s singles division with a 891 handicap total, followed by Chris Kitchens and Lynn Anthony, both of Kimball with 881 and 867, respectively. In women’s singles, Bonnie Risk of Kimball took first place with 783, followed by Shellon Anderson of Kimball with 773, Michelle Becker of Scottsbluff with 750 and Nancy Garrett of Kimball with 710.
In adult league doubles, McDonald and Frakes combined for second place with 1,721, followed by McDaniel and Garrett in third with 1,708 and the father-son team of Wayne and Austin Pile of Kimball with 1,674. In men’s non-league singles, Michael Ferguson was first with 454, followed by Jim Imler of Lincoln with 442.
A total of 52 local and out-of-town bowlers took part in the four-day tournament.
