Sidney High School Senior Logan Uhlir was recognized at Monday's regular meeting of the Sidney School Board for being selected as a National Merit Scholar finalist.
To become a finalist, a semifinalist, along with his or her high school, must submit a detailed scholarship application providing information about the their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment and honors and awards received.
They must also have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test.
Finalists compete for one of 2,500 National Merit scholarships in the amount of $2,500 that will be awarded on a state-representational basis. Winners for 2016 will be announced between April and July.
