There has been a time change to Tuesday's sendoff activity for the Sidney boys basketball team.
The community event at Dude's Steakhouse on Tuesday, which was previously set to start at 6:30 p.m., has been moved to 6 p.m. The change was made to allow attendees to also attend the Sidney High School band concert, which is set for 7 p.m.
Tuesday's sendoff event, sponsored by Day & Night Plumbing, is open to the public. Raider players and coaches will be present, and there will be posters available for the players to autograph. Appetizers will be available for a free will donation, and drinks will be available for purchase. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the autograph area.
There will be a caravan Wednesday to send the Raiders to the state tournament in style. The caravan departs at 10:45 a.m. from Sidney High School. As of press time Monday, the caravan route has not been finalized. It will be announced as soon as it is finalized.
The Raiders are also selling T-shirts for the state tournament. All proceeds will go to the Nebraska Special Olympics. The order form is available at https://t.co/Xzng2ZyHj3. Checks may be dropped off at Day & Night Plumbing, located at 1400 Jackson Street in Sidney.
All students who attend Sidney Public Schools will be off March 10-11 to allow anyone who wants to support the basketball team at state.
The fourth-seeded Raiders open state tournament play at 8:45 p.m. CST on Thursday, March 10. They face fifth-seeded Aurora in the Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.
Information released by the Nebraska Schools Activities Association tells fans to enter the Sports Center by the 14th Street entrance or 27th Street entrance.
Sidney is the home team for Thursday's game. Raider fans will be seated on the north side of the Sports Center, while SHS students will be seated in the west end of the arena.
