Lorraine M. Volkmer, 92, of Sidney and formerly of Kimball, died at Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kimball with Father Sagar officiating. Burial will be held in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service to follow. The family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m. to receive friends. The services for Lorraine have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Lorraine was born Aug. 14, 1923 in Kearney to Louis and Anna Josephine Frederick. She was a fraternal twin to LaVern Frederick and was a sister to Mary Egging. At the age of 5, she and her family moved to Kimball, where she attended school and graduated.

In 1947 Lorraine married Joseph Leslie Volkmer, and they raised their 12 children in Kimball. She was a devoted mother and wife, and was involved in the Rosary Alter Society at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Lorraine was also a member of the VFW women's auxiliary. Between caring for her 12 children and being active in the community, Lorraine also worked at George Risk Industry and State Farm Insurance. She helped out on the farm, enjoyed gardening and sewing. After many years of living in Kimball, Lorraine and J. Les spent 19 winters in Mesa, Ariz., enjoying the warm weather as snowbirds.

Lorraine Volkmer is survived by her twelve children: Jeanette and Greg Heinike of Bell Buckle, Tenn .; James and Connie (Wackel) of Leesburg, Va .; Monica Bordash and Gil Reyes of Thornton, Colo .; Theresa and Jim Ward of Cheyenne, Wyo .; Arlene and Guy Ott of Mesa, Ariz .; Randy and Jennifer Volkmer of Kearney; Jody and Brian Johnson of Great Bend, Kan .; Robert and Deanna Volkmer of Sidney; Mary Sanders and James McLin of Humble, TX; Virginia and Jon Fessenden of Pampa, TX; Sheila and Barrick Benson of Snohomish, Wash .; and Leslie and Scott Zeilinger of Tucson, Ariz. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Anna Josephine Frederick; husband, J. Les Volkmer; twin-brother, LaVern Frederick; and sister, Mary Egging.
