Leyton took the first quarter lead and held off Creek Valley for a 44-35 win in the D1-12 boys basketball subdistrict semifinals on Tuesday night in Bridgeport.
The Warriors (10-8) advance to Thursday's subdistrict finals against Dundy County-Stratton, a 77-40 winner over Morrill, on Tuesday. The loss ends the season for the Storm.
Leyton jumped out to a 16-11 first quarter lead and built a 23-13 advantage at halftime. Creek Valley outscored Leyton by just one point in the second half.
Kenny Ernest led the Warriors offensively with 14 points, while Teghan Osborne and Skylar Schumacher chipped in with eight points each. Ernest also led the team with seven rebounds, while Schumacher and Zach Hellie had six rebounds each. Schumacher led the team with five assists.
Brett Godfrey led the Storm (12-10) with 14 points, while Colin Brott chipped in with nine points. Brott led the team with nine rebounds, while Michael Smith added eight boards. Brott also led the way with four steals, while Brott and Michael Rahe had three assists each.
Potter-Dix 37, Minatare 29
Potter-Dix stormed back in the fourth quarter to overtake Minatare in a 37-29 win on Tuesday night in the D2-11 subdistrict in Gering.
The Coyotes (8-12) came back from a 10-2 first quarter deficit to pick up the win and advance to Thursday's boys basketball subdistrict finals. Potter-Dix will face Garden County, a 64-39 winner over South Platte, at 6:30 p.m. at Gering High School in the subdistrict finals.
On Tuesday, the Coyotes trailed 10-2 after the first quarter and were behind 15-9 at halftime. They also trailed 21-16 heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, however, Potter-Dix outscored Minatare 21-8 to roar back for the comeback victory.
Noah Nelson and Cole Christensen led a balanced scoring attack with eight points each for Potter-Dix. Sam Bogert and Tyrus Gawith also scored six points each.
Christensen led the team with six rebounds, while Nelson and Edward Barnes chipped in with five boards each. Barnes also had a team-high four steals.
Girls basketball
Heritage Christian 58, Peetz 15
The Peetz girls basketball season came to an end on Tuesday night with a 58-15 loss to Heritage Christian in the District 4 tournament in Sterling.
The Lady Bulldogs' season ends with a 4-16 record. Heritage Christian (19-1) advances to face Briggsdale in Thursday night's semifinals.
