Raiders take second at Southeast Duals

The Sidney wrestling team took second place at the Southeast Duals in Yoder, Wyo., on Saturday.

The Raiders posted a 4-1 team record in the event with wins over Niobrara County (Wyo.), Chadron, Burns/Pine Bluffs (Wyo.) and Gordon-Rushville. Their lone loss was to Alliance in the finals.

Sidney opened the day with a 62-18 win over Niobrara County. The Raiders had five wins in the dual and also got six wins by forfeit. Kaden Vowers (113) won by technical fall over William Fish, KC Higer (126) pinned Luke Tiensvold, Jack Feddersen (132) won by fall over Chandler Stinson, Derek Robb (152) pinned Cole Mellott and Seth McMillen (285) won in a 5-3 decision over Hunter Woodruff.

Sidney followed that win up with a 48-33 victory against Chadron. The Raiders had two wins and seven victories due to forfeit.

Robb won in the 152 weight class with a pin in 1:25 against Tameron Sayaloune, while Nathan Cuello (170) won by fall in 1:44 against Lance Cattin.

The Raiders continued their winning ways with a 53-22 win over Burns/Pine Bluffs.

Sidney had six wins in this dual. Vowers won in the 113 by fall over Wade Hendricks, Colton Peckham (120) had a win by pin in 2:40 against Isaac Ronning, and KC Higer had a quick 56-second win by pin against Thalia Carbajal.

In the 160 weight class, Robb won in 1:27 over Dylan Kelly, Cuello (170) won by technical fall over Roman Delgado and Patraic Hays won as Brandy Banville withdrew due to injury.

The Raiders won their fourth straight dual with a 54-18 win over Gordon-Rushville.

Sidney had five wins in the dual, in addition to forfeit victories. Trey Arellano (106) won by fall over Tanner Holten, Vowers (113) pinned Quin Child, and KC Higer (126) won by fall over Brandon Reeves.

In the 160 weight class, Robb won by fall in 1:53 over Zane Hamilton Harris, and Cuello pinned Damian Holeman in 1:46.

In their final dual of the day, the Raiders fell by a narrow 40-34 margin against Alliance in the championship match.

Each team won seven weight classes in the dual. Sidney won its seven outright, while Alliance won four and had three forfeit wins.

In the lower weight classes, the Raiders picked up four wins. Arellano (106) won in a 6-2 decision over Evan Steggs, Vowers (113) won by fall in 54 seconds over Braydon Wilson, Peckham (120) took a 7-4 decision against Bradan Seidler, and Jack Feddersen (132) won in a 10-1 major decision against Ross Dunn.

Robb (152) won his fourth match of the day, taking a win by fall against Danny Vallejo. Cuello (182) won by fall in 5:23 over Tyler Trout, and Cody Hofrock (220) had a win by pin in 4:49 over Lane Lauder.

The Raiders return to the mats Friday at home as they host the district meet.
