Augustus Cowan of Sidney won the Peetz Plateau School District's annual spelling bee on Friday.
Caroline Lindahl also of Sidney, took second place in the contest.
Virginia Splichal, spelling bee coordinator, commended each of the contestants for qualifying for Friday's spelling bee.
"What makes your presence here more special, is that yours is often referred to as the auto generation due to technological advances in every day life," she said.
Qualifiers from the fourth through eighth grades competed for eight spots. Peetz School will take the top eight and three alternates to the Regional Spelling Bee on Feb. 4.
