Harry L. Moore, 75 of rural Dix, passed away at his home, Saturday morning, Jan. 9, 2016.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 15, in the Cheyenne Hills Church with Pastor Galen Huck officiating. Inurnment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colo. at a later date. Cremation has been held. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Harry Leon Moore, the son of C. Allie and Essie M. (Wren) Moore, was born on Aug. 9, 1940 at Crocker, Mo. Graduated from High School in Yuma, Ariz. He was a hunting guide in the Steamboat Springs, Colo. area and loved riding in the mountains. He worked at the saw mill and graded roads in the county around Steamboat. Harry served in the United States Army Special Forces. While stationed at Fort Carson, Colo. he met and married his wife Janet Colnar. They shared fifty-one years together. They lived at his ranch in Steamboat for a year and a half before spending seven years at Dixon, Mo. Two children were born at Waynesville, Mo., Audra in 1967 and Alan 1972. Harry loved training and showing horses in Missouri on the weekends and received many trophies and awards. He was always happiest when on a horse. He owned a cattle ranch and cut wood to sell from the land. He also worked as Road Grader Supervisor at Hugo, Colo., was a self-employed Rancher and worked at the Sale Barn in the ring at Calhan, Colo. selling livestock. Harry enjoyed team roping at Hugo with the Roping Club. He lived in the Simla area for nine years before moving to Nebraska to be closer to family.
Survivors include his wife: Janet; (1) son: Alan Moore and wife Megan; (1) daughter: Audra Nitz and husband Butch; (9) grandchildren: Maggie, Aidan, Marie and Archer Moore, Amanda Ordonez and husband Luis, Jason Nitz and wife Stephanie, Jessica Dhooge and husband James, Skyler Langenberg and James Nitz; (4) great-grandchildren: Crystal and Johnny Dhooge and Damian and Makenna Ordonez; (1) sister: Nadine Mack and numerous extended family members and friends.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents: Allie and Essie, (3) brothers: Charles, Clarence and George and (1) sister: Lilly Shupp.
