Walter W. “Walt” Lundgren, 86 of Bayard, died Monday, Jan. 4, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, at Dugan-Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff with Reverend Ed Hunzeker officiating. Inurnment will follow at Bayard Cemetery with military honors by the Army National Guard. Walt was born on Dec. 7, 1929 at Keyapaha, S.D. to Henry and Eva (Haas) Lundgren. The family moved to Bayard when he was 2. In 1951, he entered into the United States Army, where he served until his honorable discharge in 1953.
In 1955, he was united in marriage to Lenora Dietz at Gering and the couple made their home in Bayard. To this union three children were born: Rebecca, Allan and Sheila.
Walt worked as a meat cutter for 35 years at the Boston Store and Noland’s processing in Bayard.
Walt was good at repairing things. He enjoyed wood working and took pride in his yard. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Walt is survived by his wife of 60 years Lenora, children Becky (Troy) Williams of Whitney, Texas, Allan Lundgren of Sidney, and Sheila Heath (Roger Cox) of Bayard, grandchildren David Werner, Michael Werner, Mandy Williams, Holly Lundgren, Lisa Lundgren, Cory Lundgren and Hilary Lundgren, 6 great-grandchildren, brother William Lundgren of Sacramento, Calif., sister-in-law Alice Ockinga of Wheatland, Wyo., and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Eva, 9 siblings, infant daughter Cheryl, and infant granddaughter Briana.
