Serving proudly since 1873 as the beautiful Nebraska Panhandle's first newspaper
Online certification for irrigators is now available through the University of Nebraska Extension website.
The certification is a requirement for all irrigators in the South Platte NRD and must be renewed every four years. In past years irrigators would be required to attend a class offered throughout the district to complete the certification.
The online course offers two options to obtain certification. The first option is the test out option where a score of 80 percent or better on 50 questions is a passing grade. If the test out option is not passed on the first attempt then the irrigator will need to do the second option.
The second option is to take the course through individual sections. The sections required by the district are sections A, B, D, E, F, I, J and L, and offer a related textbook chapter and video as preparation for the five-question test at the end of the section. To pass the sections a score of at least 80 percent, or four out of five correct questions, must be achieved. If not passed, the section test has to be taken over until it is passed.
After passing the required sections or the test out option, all irrigators will need to complete the South Platte NRD specific PowerPoint and test. The test is 12 questions long, and again, a score of 80 percent or better is needed to pass the test.
A link to the Online Irrigation and Nitrogen Certification is available through the district’s website, http://www.spnrd.org. The website also has instructions on how to sign up for and navigate the course.
The course books are handy guides that can be used while taking the online tests. Hard copies of the course books are available for free at the South Platte NRD office, located at 551 Parkland Drive in Sidney. They can also be mailed to an irrigator by request by calling the South Platte NRD at 308-254-2377 or e-mail at [email protected]. Irrigators can also contact Donald Davis at the district office via phone call or e-mail with questions regarding the irrigation and nitrogen online training.
