The Leyton Lady Warriors girls’ basketball team took a win-loss split at home over the weekend as they defeated Banner County on Friday night and lost Saturday to Hemingford.
With the split, the Lady Warriors move to 5-1 overall. They are tied with Dundy County-Stratton atop the D1-12 standings at 2-0.
Leyton 48, Banner County 12
The Lady Warriors beat back Banner County in a big way on Friday, thanks mostly to the deft shooting of Bailey Miller; the junior scored 15 points off six buckets and a 3-of-6 showing from the free throw line. She also showed up the defensive side, evening up with Natalie Cruise for nine rebounds in the game.
On defense, Cruise was by far the stoutest player as she snagged six of the 16 steals Leyton managed in the game.
Leyton’s other scorers were: Abbe Draper (9), Jessica Houk (8), Diedra Waite (8), Cruise (4), Taylor Berner (2) and Taylor Borges (2).
Hemingford 67, Leyton 28
It just wasn’t the Lady Warriors’ day on Saturday as the squad took a loss to Hemingford – a game where Leyton was outscored 30-3 in the first period alone.
The bright spots for Leyton, however, were Draper with nine points, five steals and an assist, and Berner with six points, two assists and a steal.
Draper also dropped a three-pointer and was 2-of-2 from the line. Waite also added six points and led the team with eight rebounds.
Other scorers were: Miller (4), Cruise (2) and Houk (1).
The Lady Warriors will host Haxtun on Jan. 5 at 6 p.m.
