The Cheyenne County Visitors Committee will hold its annual "House Lighting" contest next week.
The contest has been going on for more than a decade to help promote Christmas spirit within the community. Each year different winners are selected, allowing a wide range of houses to be selected for the top prize.
Judges will drive by houses in Sidney Dec. 10-11 and decide whose house has the most Christmas spirit flare.
First place receives $100, second place receives $75 and the third-place winner receives $50.
The most outrageous and elaborate house will take home the "Griswold Prize," named after the family in the movie "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." The winner of this award will also receive $100.
According to Heather Hausmann of the Cheyenne County Visitors Committee, no applications are necessary to enter the contest. Every Sidney resident with lights and decorations on their house will have a chance at the prizes.
Winners will be announced Dec. 14 and personally awarded with their "House Lighting" winnings.
