Edna M. Bruns

1940 to 2015

Edna M. Bruns, 75 of Sidney, passed away at her home, Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 4 in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Jim Heithoff officiating. Services will conclude at the church. All are invited to a reception at the Sidney Elks Lodge following the services. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday, Dec. 3 to sign Edna's register book and drop off condolences for the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Edna's name to the Elks Crippled Children's Fund, the Shriners Crippled Children's Fund or to the donor's choice. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Edna's care and funeral arrangements.

Edna was born to Ben and Frieda (Wierichs) Warrelmann in Sidney on April 14, 1940. She attended church at St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Potter and went to the country school through the 6th grade. After the school closed, she attended 7th grade through the 12th grade at Potter High School, graduating in 1958. Right out of high school she moved to Kimball where she was employed by the Kimball-Banner County Extension Service for almost 3 years. She married Harold Adels in 1958 & was divorced in 1962. She moved to Hastings and worked for battery supply for about a year before moving back to Kimball. While her son, Jeff, was a baby she worked at the Kimball Motel for a short time before moving to Casper, Wyo. where she stayed at home. She moved back to Sidney and went to work at the Sidney National Bank until April 1966 when she went to work for the Nebraska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission. She met and married the love of her life, Jack Bruns, on August 12, 1979. With this marriage she was blessed with three partially grown children, Cathleen, Robin and Jason.

She is survived by her husband: Jack Bruns of Sidney; sons: Jeff Adels of Sidney, Jason (Lisa) Bruns of Rapid City, S.D .; daughter: Robin (Chuck) Haupt of Sterling, Colo .; sister: Linda (Jim) Sewald of North Platte; brother-in-law: Jim (Carol) Bruns of Hemingford; grandchildren: Charlie (Aisha) Haupt of Mesquit, TX, Derek (America) Haupt of Albuquerque, N.M., Joey Smith, Richard (Natasha) Haupt, Morgan Haupt and Shane Carey all of Sidney; Alena Carey and Justin Bruns of Rapid City, S.D., Joe Roll, Hillary Ramkor and Danielle Shane all of Osage, IA; (8) great-granddaughters and (1) great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends, (Edna also felt that friends were family).

She is preceded in death by her parents: Ben and Frieda Warrelmann and Ed Harmsen; sister: Tilley Elsen and husband Curtis; sister-in-law: Mary Manion and husband Ron and Jo Bruns; daughter: Cathleen Bruns; daughter-in-law: Briel Adels and a very special friend: Marjorie Dishman.
