Local veterinarian Ken Cook was recognized at this year's ServeNebraska Step Forward Awards ceremony in Ashland.
Cook was nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award for his 40 years as a 4-H leader. At the 4-H banquet, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the state 4-H office for his many years of leadership.
ServeNebraska, the Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission, coordinates and supports community involvement by Nebraskans that address the needs of our communities. The group helps coordinate AmeriCorps programming, celebrates volunteer achievements through quarterly and annual awards, provides training and technical assistance, and works to ensure that those with disabilities are fully involved.
The organization's commission is composed of up to 25 voting volunteer members appointed by the governor creating a commission of non-partisan, diverse citizens reflecting Nebraska's unique identity.
Gov. Pete Rickets selected the ServeNebraska Step Forward Award recipients at this year's event.
The ServeNebraska Step Forward Awards recognized significant contributions made within the state through volunteerism. Their mission is to mobilize Nebraskans to strengthen their communities through volunteering, collaboration and national service programs.
