The time change and the start of November will bring colder temperatures and possible snow showers to this week’s forecast.
Temperatures for this week will begin in the low 70s before dropping to a high of 62 on Wednesday. On Thursday you can expect clouds, rain and a chance of snow with highs in the upper 40s. Lows for the week will dip below freezing.
According to the Cheyenne, Wyo., Weather Forecast Office, the 70 degree temperatures are 10- to 20-degrees warmer than usual for this time of year.
“Normally for that area highs are around 59 and lows are in the 30s,” said Steve Rubin, meteorologist at the Cheyenne office. “The precipitation moving through will cool things down on Thursday, but Sidney might not get snow. The bulk of the storm system will be north and west of Sidney. If anything, it will just be rain with a few possible snow flakes.”
Rubin added that the first measurable snowfall in Sidney is typically Oct. 26, but has been recorded as late as Thanksgiving.
As the temperatures continue to drop, Chad Hahn, warning coordination meteorologist, encourages locals to be prepared for the weather changes.
“Make sure things like sprinkler systems are winterized if you haven’t already done that,” Hahn said. “Definitely transition for the winter if you’re planning to travel. It’s always good to have a winter kit in the car with supplies. It’s important to check ahead for road conditions and be aware of the weather forecast ahead of travel plans.”
Hahn added that weather conditions change quickly over time and space and it’s important to be observant and prepared.
