She was born on Dec. 23, 1926 to John and Henrietta (Strein) Block and lived most of her life around Lodgepole. She graduated from Lodgepole High School and on September 13, 1944 she married Robert (Bob) Huff, her high school sweetheart. They lived 2 years in San Diego while Bob was in the Navy. Upon his release, they moved back to the Lodgepole area where he farmed and drove a grain truck for Tremain Trucking until his death in 1989.
Laverna was a homemaker and later worked at the Coffee Cup Café in Lodgepole and also sold Beauty Counselor makeup. She was a talented seamstress whose services were much in demand, especially when a new wardrobe of cheerleading outfits were needed, or a wedding required multiple bridesmaids dresses. She was also very active in her community, helping for years with dinners for the Lions Club and in her church, making many quilts and serving in many church activities.
In 2011, for health reasons, she moved to Lincoln. While there, she enjoyed being a part of family activities like volleyball games, birthday parties, and holiday gatherings. During her stay in Lincoln, she was very well taken care of by the caring staff at Country House Memory Care and later at Sumner Place Nursing Home.
