Garden County High School got off to a fast start as it stayed unbeaten this season with a 70-24 victory over Leyton on Friday night.
Garden County scored 30 points in the opening quarter and added 18 more in the second to open up a 48-12 advantage by the intermission.
Matt McCarthy returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown to get Garden County off to a fast start. McCarthy scored four first-quarter touchdowns and added a fifth score in the second period.
His teammate Elliuot Epp added three TD runs to help the Eaglerds push their record to 7-0.
Leyton quarterback Rhett Dye had a big day in the loss, throwing for four touchdowns.
He connected with Morley Haley in the opening quarter for a 65-yard scoring strike. He added a 7-yard TD pass to Kenny Ernest in the second quarter.
In the second half, Dye connected with Zach Hellie from 23 yards out for a TD and then finished off his night with a 10-yard TD pass to Ernest.
Leyton (2-5) hosts Potter-Dix (1-6) on Friday night in its season-finale.
