Sidney sits 3rd as team; Blauert fires 86 to lead way
The Sidney High School girls' golf team put itself in a position to contend for a state title after the opening day of the Class B State Championships on Monday.
And, the Lady Raiders' Rachel Blauert was near the top of the leaderboard after the first of two rounds of action and poised to make a run at the individual title.
Sidney shot a team score of 383 on Day 1, good for third place overall. Omaha Duchesne Academy was the leader with a 367, followed by defending state champion Scottsbluff at 378.
Blauert shot an 86 on Monday, which left her in a tie for third place in the individual standings.
Kendra Platte of Seward was the only golfer to break 80 over the par-72, Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus. She was followed by Callie Hawkins (85) of Grenta. Blauert was tied with Ashlyn Ostgren of Holdrege.
Besides Blauert's 86, Sidney also received strong efforts from several of its other golfers.
Megan Neal carded a 96 and teammate Emma Alexander shot a 98. Taylor Parson finished with a 103 to round out the Lady Raiders' scoring.
The second and final day of action resumed Tuesday morning.
