Two events mark Substance Abuse Prevention Month

Panhandle Mental Health Center will be sponsoring two community-based events to mark National Substance Abuse Prevention Month in October.

The first will be a presentation on drugs and alcohol given by Chuck Elley on Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. at the health center. Information regarding the current drug issues affecting our youth including palcohol – or powdered alcohol – and the impact of marijuana laws in Colorado affecting western Nebraska will be discussed.

The second event will is an open house on Thursday from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the main office (4110 Ave D, Scottsbluff) to raise awareness for both substance abuse prevention and treatment options within the community.

In recognition of Substance Abuse Prevention Month, the center reminds anyone who may be struggling with substance abuse to seek help. It has a sliding fee scale based on family size and income for assessment and treatment services, and they accept private insurance and Medicaid.
