Lady Raiders spike Alliance in straight sets

Sidney High’s volleyball team will look to take some momentum into this weekend’s Western Conference Tournament after defeating Alliance in straight sets Thursday night on the road.

The Lady Raiders improved their season mark to 9-12 with the 25-23, 27-25, 25-15 victory over the Bulldogs (8-12).

Freshman Payton Jung has 13 kills and two aces for Sidney, and teammate Annalise Lecher added 10 kills and three aces.

Plenty of other Lady Raiders made an impact in the match as well.

Kelsey Knight had seven digs and a pair of aces, Maddi Porter recorded 15 digs and two blocks, Abbey Mills chipped in nine digs and setter Emily Mahr registered 24 assists and nine digs.

The Lady Raiders will see Alliance again this weekend at the Western Conference Tournament. Sidney is the No. 5 seed in the six-team event.

Sidney opens play against top-seeded Chadron at 9 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell High School. At about 10:15 a.m., it will square off against No. 4 Alliance.

In the other pool, No. 2 Mitchell, No. 3 Gering and No. 6 Scottsbluff will square off in the morning at Mitchell Elementary School.

The championship round will be played in the afternoon.
