Rivals Leyton and Creek Valley high schools crossed paths on Tuesday at the Haxtun Triangular volleyball matches.
Leyton came out on top in a thrilling, three-set match against the Storm, winning 23-25, 25-20, 29-27. Both the Lady Warriors and Lady Storm lost their matches to host Haxtun. Leyton fell 25-20, 25-17, while Creek Valley was beaten 19-25, 25-19, 25-18.
Leyton is 14-5 this season, while Creek Valley’s record stands at 7-7. Meanwhile, Haxtun improved to 8-4.
In Creek Valley’s loss to Leyton, Jessie Straber had 11 kills and 17 digs for the Storm. Teammate Joey Straber provided 20 digs. Samantha Schmid had 18 assists for the Lady Storm.
No match statistics were reported for the Lady Warriors.
In Leyton’s loss to Haxtun, Diedra Waite and Katie Higgins provided three kills apiece. Kristine Barnett had a team-high 19 digs and Natalie Cruise chipped in 15 digs. Taylor Berner had nine assists.
In the Creek Valley-Haxtun tilt, Jessie Straber recorded 11 kills for the Lady Storm and Joey Straber added 20 digs. Berner had 20 assists in the match.
Leyton hosts Pine Bluffs (Wyo.) on Thursday at 4 p.m. Creek Valley is off until Tuesday when it travels to Paxton.
