CV golfers fall short at districts

The golf season came to a close for Creek Valley High School on Monday, with its top golfer falling a half-dozen shots from qualifying for the Class C state tournament.

The Storm, who fielded just three golfers all season and thus weren’t eligible to post a team score, was led by Maddy Johnson at Monday’s Class C District 5 Tournament at West Winds Golf Club in Ogallala. Johnson shot a 115, six shots behind the last state qualifier’s mark of 109.

The top three teams and any individuals in the top 10 automatically qualify for state. The Class C state tournament will be at Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte on Oct. 12-13.

Chadron won the district title with a 422. Dundy County/Stratton (428) and Mitchell (437) also advanced to state, well ahead of fourth-place finisher Mullen (480).

Johnson shot sides of 55 and 60 en route to her 115. Jaden Criswell shot a 118 for the Storm and teammate Jo Hummermeier carded a 138.

The medalist was Chadron’s Ricki Hickstein, who shot a 75.
