The annual Yuma (Colo.) Arts Association Show, Exhibit and Sale will be held Oct. 2-8 at the First Presbyterian Church in Yuma. Anyone can enter art as long as it is ready to display or as a 3-D piece for a table or the floor. You may bring up to 10 additional items to sell. Enter from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the Presbyterian Church, 110 W. 4th Ave., Yuma. Friday, Oct. 9

The City of Sidney will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Sidney Outdoor Aquatic Center on Friday at 10:30 a.m. The event will take place at the site of the new pool, off Fort Sidney Road behind the T-ball fields. The Panhandle Area Development District will hold an informational meeting at Serenity Café in Sidney on Friday at 1:30 p.m. to discuss possible brownfields – sites that may be contaminated by hazardous substances or pollutants – in Cheyenne County and opportunities to improve them. PADD was recently awarded a grant to study brownfields in the Nebraska Panhandle.

Saturday, Oct. 10

Annual Single Ladies Winter Car Check will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10. Single ladies are invited to bring their cars to the Sidney Evangelical Free Church parking lot at 2763 11th Ave. for a free winter car check from 9 a.m. to noon. Inspection includes: lights, tires, oil, transmission fluid, battery, antifreeze, brake fluid, belts and other items. We will even vacuum your vehicle. No mechanical work will be done. You can help yourself to some coffee and donuts while the inspection is being completed. Call (308) 254-6162 with any questions.

Cool Kids Club/ No Limits will be hosting Lights On After School – a national celebration for after school programs across the nation. We will hold a soup supper at North Elementary for families and supporters of the program starting at 5 p.m. There will also be activities for families to participate in such as science experiments and decorating pumpkins and gourds. Cheyenne County Art Guild workshop, “Who’s Afraid of a Blank Piece of Paper? Zentangle-like Fun”, will be on Monday, Oct. 12, at 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Light Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1345 Linden. The workshop begins at 5:30 p.m., breaks for a light meal at 6:30 p.m. Short business meeting at 7 p.m. For the workshop, bring fine-tipped markers in any color if you have them. The Panhandle Quilt Guild will be having its monthly meeting, Saturday, Oct. 17 at Community Bible Church, 900 Main St., Bayard. Snacks at 9 a.m., and the meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. New members always welcome.

Cool Kids Club/ No Limits will be holding an All-Day Event on Oct. 23 when school is not in session. This will be held at NorthElementary from 7:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. for school-age students. Lunch and a snack will be provided. There will be a charge. Registrations for those NOT already in CKC/NL can be picked up and dropped off at any of the elementary offices and the Cheyenne County Community Center. Cool Kids Club/ No Limits, 4-H and the Cheyenne County Community Center will again be hosting the annual Hey Day Festival for families on Oct. 24th at the Cheyenne County Fair Grounds from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A costume contest will be held with prizes. Activities include face painting, cookie decorating, cake walk, carnival booths, and more. There will be free refreshments and door prizes. There is no cost for the event but a free will donation will be accepted. Contact Coleen Langdon 249-6572 for any questions.

The Jitney Supper will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sidney High School Cafeteria.

Monday, Nov. 2

Halloween Candy Buyback

2015 will be held on Monday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at LifeSmiles of Sidney, 1040 Old Post Road, (308) 254-7171. Trade your Halloween candy for Money and Fabulous prizes!!! Open to kids age 2-12. Candy must be new and in its original packaging. Pay is $1 per pound, up to five pounds. Candy will be donated to the troops through Operation Gratitude.
