Tomsick graduates from naval training center

Seaman Recruit Joseph W. Tomsick graduated from Great Lakes Naval Training Center on Sept. 25 to the rank of E2, Seaman Apprentice.

Tomsick was a member of the 2015 graduating class at Sidney High School and has a first-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do from the ATA Family Martial Arts School in Sidney. He is the son of Dennis and Mary Beth Tomsick of Sidney.

Tomsick's graduating class in Great Lakes had close to 900 people from across 12 divisions. He was one of 68 in Division 326, Ship No. 4.

During the eight-week program to become a Navy sailor, Tomsick was awarded the National Defense Service Military Ribbon for serving in the military in a time of war, and the Navy Pistol Marksmanship Military Ribbon.

His future plans are to complete training in the Advanced Electronics Division at Great Lakes Naval Base, located north of Chicago, and then to attend the University of Wyoming next year.
