City Council set to begin search for new city manager

The City Council will review a requested proposal at Tuesday evening’s meeting to start the process of recruiting a new city manager.

If the proposal for using an executive search firm passes, the City of Sidney will request qualified firms to submit “Letters of Interest” and” Statements of Qualification and Experience” for consideration to provide services to assist in the selection.

City Clerk Geri Anthony was appointed interim city manager on Aug. 27 following the resignation of longtime City Manager Gary Person.

The city manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the administrative services of the city, the police department, fire department, economic development, golf course, parks and cemetery, electric department, solid waste, streets, water, sewer and wastewater treatment facility.

According to the proposal, the new city manager will possess strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with the mayor and city council, a strong work ethic and the ability to establish performance goals and ensure accountability among its departments.

According to City of Sidney’s Human Resources Director Jo Houser, once a city manager is hired, a new public services director will be hired. Currently, there is no interim named for that position since John Hehnke was fired last month.
