88th Annual Dalton Fall Festival

DALTON – Hundreds of residents and visitors turned out last weekend for the 88th annual Dalton Fall Festival.

"It went really well," Paul Parker, chairwoman of the organizing committee, said on Monday morning. "Overall, it was a great weekend."

The sun was shining and the weather pleasant throughout the weekend as participants competed in various competitions, enjoyed community meals and listened to live music.

This year, the area used for the car show was expanded by a block, Parker said.

"We definitely filled it up this year," she said.

A chicken noodle soup dinner was also a hit, as it always is, she added.

On Saturday night, Brooke McRoberts performed at Leyton High School – her alma matter.

"She graduated from Leyton and her mother lives in Gurley," Parker said. "It was great for her to come back to Nebraska and perform."

At Saturday's horseshoe competition, Tina Sifuentez and Tony Bazauez Jr. took first place in the Class A division. Bill Nelson and Cole Stonewad won second and Rosebud Rose and Doug Meyer finished third. There were 18 players.

Parade winners in the commercial category included: 1st, Uptown Image Salon; 2nd, Wheatbelt; 3rd, Points West Bank. Family/youth: 1st, Parker Family; 2nd, Daniel's Family; 3rd, Devier Family. Organizations: 1st, Camp Clark Raiders; 2nd, Dalton/Gurley Cub Scout Pack 92; 3rd, Leyton High School FFA. Pioneer: 1st, Caring Clowns; 2nd, Larry Nelson; 3rd, Jack Schilling.

Points West Bank-Dalton took first place in the scarecrow contest, followed by Gurley/Dalton Garden Club (2nd) and Dalton Market (3rd).

In the Family Feud tournament on Sunday, Job's Daughters won first place, the Dalton Gang took second and the Dalton/Gurley Boy Scout Troop 92 finished 3rd – and was also voted the fan favorite team.
