Lodgepole marks long weekend with Old Settlers' Days

LODGEPOLE – Months of preparations and the efforts of countless volunteers were on display in Lodgepole last weekend as the 91st Old Settlers' Days took place.

Tammy Sherman, Lodgepole village clerk, said community groups and residents worked for eight months planning the four-day celebration.

This year's event had the theme, "An old fashioned welcome to classmates and friends."

The annual festivities went well, Sherman added.

"The weather was good and it was just a really nice weekend," she said.

There were great turnouts for events throughout the weekend, especially at the parade, the tractor pull and the community barbecue, Sherman said.

World champion trick roper Joan Wells displayed her skills in a performance prior to parade on Sunday.

A turkey softball tournament on Friday, where competitors ran the bases backward, lasted until 2 a.m.

Sherman said Old Setters' Days is a community-wide effort.

"It's amazing when you step back and see what a small community can do," she said.
