Serving proudly since 1873 as the beautiful Nebraska Panhandle's first newspaper
Western Nebraska Community College is inviting Panhandle artists to submit original artwork to be included in the fourth annual Art Gallery Exhibit taking place on Thursday, Oct. 22 at the John N. Harms Advanced Technology Center in Scottsbluff.
WNCC charges no entry fee for this non-juried show, and all Panhandle artists and WNCC alumni may submit original artwork. The WNCC Alumni Association defines an alum as anyone who has ever taken a class at WNCC. In addition, a Youth Art Contest has been added this year, inviting youth grades preschool through high school to create a drawing of what it means to “Grow Your Future.” A $25 honorarium for a future youth workshop or camp will be awarded to the winner.
Artists may submit their work from Sept. 14-18. The exhibit is held in conjunction with Celebrate WNCC and the Scottsbluff/Gering United Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours.
Last year, the WNCC Art Gallery featured 46 artists with more than 120 works of art. The public cast ballots for the People’s Choice Award, with top honor going to Yelena Khanevskaya of Scottsbluff with her piece titled, “Universe Unfolding.” The honorable mention honoree was Letisha Smith of Morrill with her acrylic “Enchantment.”
“WNCC is thrilled to once again be hosting the Art Gallery Exhibit,” said Judy Amoco, dean of economic and community development. “Thousands of people visit our campus each year. This is an opportunity for WNCC to proudly recognize the breadth of artistic talent in our communities and to support the arts as well as the artists.”
