Max Wilkie

1925 to 2015

Max Wilkie, 90, passed away July 23, 2015 at Sterling House Assisted Living in Loveland, Colo. He was born May 10, 1925 to Robert and Florence (Halkyard) Wilkie on the Wilkie Farm south of Gibbon, Neb. He attended Gibbon Public School and graduated in 1942. On November 28, 1942 he married Bernidean Smith. Together they had four children. Max and Bernidean enjoyed dancing, raising sheep and cattle and spending time with their family and friends. Max was a livestock order/buyer for 50 years. He bought hogs for Hormel Packing Company and cattle for Cornhusker Packing Company. Max was also a very entertaining story teller. He often mesmerized friends and family with stories of his past, growing up in rural Nebraska.

Max is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Bernie; daughter Ardyce Yowell (Ron) of Windsor; sons Bob (Gwen) of Potter and Bart of Torrington; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. And a special companion Biscuit. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Mark and his infant daughter Rebecca Sue.

Memorial services will be held at Viegut Funeral Home on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at 11 a.m. Graveside services will take place at Gibbon Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Go to http://www.viegutfuneralhome.com for condolences.
