Bill Shino, 87, a lifetime member of Merino, Colo., passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 16, 2015. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 24 at Tennant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 25 at the Berean Church, 12527 County Road 37, Sterling. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Bill was born on the farm in Merino on April 17, 1928 to Karoku (Morita) Shino and Yukano (Sasaki) Shino. He graduated from Logan County High School and started farming and was still active in helping his sons farm until around the age of 85. He did custom combining and hay. He was an avid shuffleboard player, winning many tournaments. He enjoyed a good game of pitch or scat (31). He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Sterling Elks Lodge #1336 and the American Legion Post #20.
Bill married Mildred Mixon and she preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 1975. He later married Irene Houghton Walker and she preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 2012.
He is survived by a daughter, Barb (Pete) Lauer of Greeley; sons Garry Shino and Tim Shino of Merino, Ken Shino of Pleasant Hill, IA, Ted (Laura) Pickett of Atwood, Troy Walker of Castle Rock and John (Cyndi) Walker of Loveland; brother-in-law Dave Aoki of Ogden, UT; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; numerous friends, who referred to him as "Grandpa."
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters and spouses, Kim (Sam) Kitashima, Lil Aoki, Sumi Enomoto, Hub (Kiyo) Aoki, and brother June Shino, granddaughters Bethany and Allison, daughter-in-law Diana Shino.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill's honor may be made to the Bill Shino Memorial Fund, PO Box 95, Merino, CO 80741.
Tennant Funeral Home, 330 S. 2nd St., Sterling is in charge of arrangements.
