Revving up the CarBowl - Melodrama on tap now as part of Potter CarBowl

'Is There a Doctor In The House?' to take stage; golf and bowling events also on tap

POTTER – Between veterans and rookies, locals from the Potter area have worked together to bring the wild west to life for the town's annual melodrama.

This year, "Is There a Doctor In The House?" will be performed at the town's Legion Hall, bringing rapid-fire jokes, sight gags and slapstick comedy.

The performances begin Thursday and run nightly through Saturday.

Taking place in a western style hotel lobby and general store, Lucy Canary played by Talia Enevoldsen wants to marry Lester Doodbe portrayed by Sam Bogert. Her father and Mayor, Caesar Canary (Barry Gaston) agrees on having a wedding, however, doesn't agree on the future groom. To delay the wedding plans, Lucy loses her voice. The cast then begins to search through an array of scheming, unconventional and bizarre doctors to fix Lucy's voice.

Drew Enevoldsen, director of the melodrama, said the production is the main fundraiser for the historic Legion Hall in Potter.

"This year's melodrama kick started an event that gives back to the community. It really has something to offer everyone," Enevoldsen said.

As a way to give back to the community, volunteers including Enevoldsen helped create the inaugural Potter CarBowl.

"We will have the car show, a duckpin bowling tournament, a two-man team golf tournament, a free bull-riding event for kids 5 to 13 years old and the melodrama Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights," he said. "This is just a way for us to give back to help support the golf course, help maintain the bowling alley and the proceeds help benefit various groups."

Registration for the golf tournament at Potter's Prairie Pines Golf Course is $60 and includes a cart, green fees and lunch. The golf tournament will kick off the Potter CarBowl at 7 a.m. on Saturday.

Other events include the Tiny Twisters Miniature Bull Riding, the car and tractor show as well as drawings throughout the day, and admission is free.

The Legion Hall doors open at 6 p.m. and the curtain raises at 7 p.m. for the melodrama. There is a cost for tickets.
