The Nebraska Chautauqua will present a series featuring six famous characters from U.S. history from June 9-13. The theme for this year’s Chautauqua, first person portrayals of historical figures, will explore the vast influences of the 1862 legislation. Gold Rush 5K at Legion Park
8:05 p.m. – Kid’s 1-mile run, 8:15 p.m. – 5K walkers, 8:30 p.m. – 5K runners. Awards held at 9:15 p.m. Bring a chair, s’more’s fixings and hot dogs to roast over the camp fire and listen to stories. Pairs-N-Half-A-Pair Square Dance Club will have a Regular Dance at the IOOF Hall in Gering on Friday, June 12, from 7 to 9 p.m. with Lucky calling with PLUS dancing from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
Wednesday, June 17
Cast of Bronze-Dallas, a hand-bell choir from Texas, will perform a concert on Wednesday, June 17 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Sidney First United Methodist Church. The free concert is one of the group’s first stop on its summer tour. Amber Davis White, a former Kearney resident, is a member of the group. Thursday, June 18
Cancer survivor support group meets every third Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. at Dorwart Cancer Care Center. A variety of topics will be discussed and food is provided. Call Leslie at (308) 250-1113 with questions.
June 20 and 21
The Annual Father’s Day Classic 3-man Scramble will be held June 20-21 at the Four Winds Golf Course. No handicap is needed. There is an entry fee that includes two rounds of golf and an evening meal on Saturday. Call the pro shop at (308) 235-4241 for more information.
Saturday, June 27
The Potter Car Bowl will be held Saturday, June 27 with activities for the entire family. Events include a car show, duckpin bowling tournament, bull riding competition, golf tournament and a melodrama and dinner. For more information, call (308) 879-4451.
July 2-5
A 4th of July celebration will be held in Oshkosh from Thursday, July 2 through Sunday, July 5. There will be a beer garden and live music.
