Sidney Public Schools to host special ed meeting

Parents and guardians of home-schooled students with disabilities who live within Sidney Public School District boundaries are invited to attend a meeting next week to discuss special education services.

The meeting will take place on Monday, June 8 at 5:15 p.m. at the district administration office, before the monthly school board meeting.

Angie Jacobson, the school district’s special education coordinator and psychologist, said the meeting is intended to ensure home-schooled students with special needs are identified and plans for providing special education services are developed.

“So we’re making ourselves available,” she said.

The meeting is required under federal regulations and largely intended for school districts that have private schools within their boundaries, she explained.

“But since we don’t have any private schools, it really just affects home-schooled students,” Jacobson said.

Sidney School District special education leaders will be seeking input and comments at the meeting, she said.
