A rainstorm on Monday morning followed by a constant drizzle led to a cancellation of scheduled events at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Events planned by the V.F.W. Post 610, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 40 and the American Legion Post 17 were to include speakers, the laying of a wreath, a benediction, a gun salute and the playing of "Taps."
Despite the cancellation, dozens of people turned out to honor those who died while serving in the armed forces.
Cemeteries in other nearby communities, including Lodgepole and Leyton, also placed U.S. flags near the headstones of veterans.
