The Sidney Red Raiders golf team concluded its final match of the regular season Thursday and finished in fifth place with a 342 at the Ogallala Invite.
Ahead of the Raiders were match winner Scottsbluff with a 314, McCook at 319, Coazad with a 337 and Gothenburg at 339. All the teams that finished ahead of the Raiders will be in Sidney for the Class B-4 district tournament scheduled for Monday at Hillside Golf Course. The first tee time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
“We seem to have one good match and then a bad one,” said Raiders head coach Chuck Christensen. “Maybe we’ve gotten the bad one out of our system and will have a good day ready for districts. I’m pretty excited about our chances to qualify for state as a team.”
The top three teams at districts will qualify for state at Riverside Golf Club in Grand Island on May 27-28. The top-10 individuals also make the field. Though Sidney finished behind five of its district rivals at Ogallala, they have finished ahead of Cozad and Gothenburg on several occasions this season.
Sidney was led in scoring by Nate Dvorak and Ryan Birner with an 81 and 82 respectively. Connor Dormann came in with an 87, Garrett Wamsley a 92, Jake Burke a 95 and Brady Radcliffe a 102.
“Brady just had one of those days,” Christensen said. “I’m not worried about him. He’ll forget about this and be fine and ready to go on Monday.”
