A severe weather system is making its way through Cheyenne County. As of Saturday night, County Road 113 in the southern part of the county is closed between mile markers six and eight due to high water.
A deputy with the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office said drivers are urged to avoid roads in the southern part of the county.
Weather forecasts are calling for snow and wind throughout the night. On Sunday, 1 to 2 inches of snow are forecasted.
Temperatures are expected to rise on Wednesday, with a high of 70 degrees.
The weather system currently engulfing Western Nebraska is working its way east, according to a spokesman at the National Weather Service office in Cheyenne.
"Because of the intensity of the system, it produces a lot of moisture from the Gulf, and that rainfall can potentially turn into snow for the Sidney area," Rob Cox told the Sun-Telegraph earlier this week.
According to Cox, snowstorms in May are not unusual. Record lows for this time of year have dropped into the 20s.
