Western Nebraska Community College’s cosmetology department at the Sidney campus is offering a Mother’s Day special that includes a hot oil manicure, hot hand wax and a spa pedicure for $17. Call (308) 254-7456 for an appointment.

Saturday, May 2

The Great Trash Race will be held Saturday, May 2 from 9-11 a.m., beginning at Hickory Street Square. Free T-Shirt for those who register before April 24. Prizes for the Top 3 teams collecting the most trash. $25 Chamber gift certificate for the “Weirdest Find.” Lunch is free for participants. For more information, call (308) 254-5851

Mothers Day Craft Program

A craft program will be held Saturday. May 2 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Sidney Public Library for children in kindergarten through 6th grade. To register, call (308) 254-3110.

Gurley’s Spring Fling Craft and Gift Show will be held Saturday, May 2 from 1-4 p.m. at the Loading Chute Bar and Grill in Gurley. Multiple vendors and items will include: jams and jellies, purses, jewelry, matted and frame pictures, table runners, pillows, collectables, homemade salsa, Poofy Organics, do Terra, It Works!, wreaths, flint expressions. Monday, May 4

The Sidney High School freshman orientation will take place on Monday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s commons area. Incoming 9th graders can complete registration paperwork, learn about school involvement, choose classes and win prizes. Call the school at (309) 254-5893 for more information.

The Cheyenne County Young Professionals group will meet Monday, May 4 from 6-8 p.m. at Hillside Bar and Grill. It will be an evening to socialize and network. It is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, May 5

A Parkinson’s support group for the Western Nebraska area meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 312 W. 16th St., Alliance. Call Dee Brauninger at (308) 763-1254 with questions or email her at [email protected].

The Jr. Friends of the Library will be meeting at the Sidney Public Library this upcoming Tuesday, May 5th. Meeting time is 5:30 and youth 7th through 12th grade are welcome. The emphasis of this group is to provide service to others through a variety of community projects. For more information please call the library at 254-3110 or stop by for a visit. Thursday, May 7

May 7th is National Day of Prayer. There will be open prayer from 7-8 a.m. and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the gazebo in the Community Garden. All are welcome to come and pray for our government, military, media, business, education, church and family. At noon, there will be a united prayer that takes place across the country.

Friday, May 8

A dance for all 7th and 8th grade students, sponsored by Job’s Daughters to celebrate youth week, will be held at the Elks Lodge in Sidney on Friday, May 8 from 7-9 p.m. There will be a door charge. Pictures and refreshments will be provided. DJ music provided by MIB Music Productions.

Tuesday, May 12

A boating safety course will be held at Western Nebraska Community College’s Sidney campus on Tuesday, May 12 from 6-9 p.m. The course covers everything from equipment requirements to safe boat operation and accident prevention. Wednesday, May 13

The Sidney High School 2014-2015 “Evening of Excellence” will be held Wednesday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments in the commons area. The presentation of awards will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Students who have achieved excellence in their high school endeavors will be honored. The public is invited.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Panhandle Mental Health Center invites the public on Wednesday, May 13 from 1-3 p.m. to its office at 4110 Avenue D, Scottsbluff, for coffee with one of its mental health clinicians. Attendees can ask questions, learn about mental health problems and what treatment looks like.

Saturday, May 16

The 2nd Annual Kids Go Fishing Rodeo

will be held Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 a.m. at Cedar Vue (Gate 13) at Lake McConaughy. Free event for children ages 3-15.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Thursday, May 21

Cancer survivor support group meets every third Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. at Dorwart Cancer Care Center. A variety of topics will be discussed and food is provided. Call Leslie at (308) 250-1113 with questions.
