CV golfers tie for 5th

The Creek Valley High golf team posted its best score of the season Tuesday, finishing in a tie for fifth at the Garden County Invitational.

Dundy County finished on top of the team competition with a 342 with Perkins County taking runner-up honors with a 357. Mullen and Ogallala tied for third with 371s while Creek Valley tied with Hay Springs at 380.

Boosted by a back-nine 43, Austin Rowley led the Storm with a top score of 90 that was just two strokes out of the medals. Rowley was followed by Brett Godfrey (92), Wyatt McMillen (98), Joe Van Winkle (100) and Ben Cabela (124).

While the young Storm team has shown steady improvement this season, head coach Cyd Hanson believes its hasn’t reached its ceiling.

“When they start cleaning up and minimizing the little mistakes that we all make, I think we will continue to improve,” Hasnson said. “I’m looking forward to see how they do on their home course with the two meets coming up.”

The Storm will host the MAC Conference meet at the Chappell Golf Course on Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
