With its full complement of athletes back in action after many missed the last meet due to a Future Farmers of America event in Vail (Colo.), the Peetz Bulldogs track team broke a pair of school records in a strong showing at the YW Area Invitational in Yuma, Colo. on Tuesday.
The Peetz boys finished the day with 72 points to finish in fourth among the 11 teams.
In the boys 400 meters, Cody Wilson was energized by a strong challenger as he raced to the finish line in 52.28 seconds to establish a new school record.
On the girls’ side, Abby White is now the new school record holder at 1,600 meters as she crossed the line in just under six minutes at 5:59.71. She smashed the old mark by about six seconds. White’s effort was good for fourth place and earned five points towards the Lady Bulldogs’ cause.
The Bulldogs picked up six more when the 4x800-relay team finished third. The group included Whitney Christian, Jennifer Gutierrez, Payton Swedlund and White.
In addition to Wilson’s school-record breaking 400, Logan Sircy added 10 first-place points for Peetz as he won the 3,200 meters. Sircy added six more points with a third in the mile. Garrin Cox finished third in both the shot put and discus.
Peetz scored seconds in three boys relay events. Wilson, Casey Barrett, Cole White and Bradey Holtz teamed up in both the 4x200-meter relay and the 4x400. Wolf Wenneker, Sircy, Holtz and White did the trick in the 4x800 relay.
