White, Sircy help pace Peetz track teams

WRAY, Colo. – The Peetz High track teams headed south to Wray (Colo.) for the Dick Evans Invitational on Saturday, with the boys finishing in a tie for sixth place and the one-person girls’ team taking 13th.

Host Wray was the runaway winner in the girls’ competition with 212 points to finish 110 ahead of runner-up Yuma.

Both the boys and girls teams were shorthanded with a large group attending the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Vail. In fact, Abby White carried the Lady Bulldogs banner all by herself.

White made herself heard, however, by placing third in the 1,600 meters to score six points.

The boys’ competition ended with Sedgwick County as the winner with 90 points with Yuma taking in second with 72. The Bulldogs, powered mainly by their strong relay teams, finished with 44 points.

Freshman Logan Sircy had the strongest individual finish for the Bulldogs with his runner-up at 1,600 meters. In the field events, Garrin Cox scored 12 points for Peetz with a pair of third places in the throwing events.

Despite the absence of several of its runners, the Peetz boys scored consistently in the relay events. They picked up 24 points with three second-place finishes. The Peetz runner-up finishes came in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x800 relays.

Both of the shorter relays combined the talents of Cole White, Bradey Holtz, Wilson and Cox. The 4x800 included White, Holtz, Wolf Wenneker and Sircy.

The Bulldogs are back on the track on Tuesday with a meet at Yuma beginning at 3 p.m.
