Cheyenne County’s Court-Appointed Special Advocates will host its annual “Night of Music” fundraiser on Tuesday at Sidney High School.
This fundraiser offers the community an opportunity to help fight against child abuse and neglect.
Marion Janzen, CASA’s executive director, said the “Night of Music” will feature 10 local performers with a variety of music from piano, singing and a musical group to help toward the organization’s mission.
“All of the talent supporting CASA is from Cheyenne County,” Janzen said. “April is also Child Abuse Prevention Month.”
CASA is a network of community-based programs that recruit, train and support citizen volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in courtrooms and communities. Each volunteer is appointed to a cased by a judge and the volunteer’s goal is to provide a carefully researched background of the child to help the court make a decisions about the child’s future. With this program, CASA is able to give a voice to those who don’t have one by determining what is best for the abused child.
In Cheyenne County, CASA currently has 13 children assigned from the juvenile court system. The CASA volunteer makes a recommendation on placement of the child and follows through on the case until it is permanently resolved.
The Night of Music begins at 7 p.m. in the Sidney High auditorium. There is a cost for admission.
