Sports director leaving for post as voice of Chadron
Longtime KSID news and sports director and play-by-play broadcaster, Dave Collins announced he is leaving the radio station, effective Friday.
Collins, a fixture around panhandle sports for more than 10 years, has taken a job as the voice of the Chadron State College with Eagle Communications. While in Sidney, Collins was the man behind the microphone who called hundreds of basketball, volleyball, football and American Legion baseball games.
"I've had a wonderful experience in Sidney covering games in town and all the surrounding areas," Collins said. "It's been so rewarding for me to be a part of so many communities with so many wonderful people and kids. I'm really going to miss it here."
While leaving Sidney was a tough decision for Collins, the move gives him an opportunity to realize a lifelong dream. Since growing up in Westminster, Colo. as a passionate college sports fan, he has long wanted to be the man behind the microphone for a college sports program. Collins will be the voice for all Chadron sports – which is a good fit for someone with a lifelong passion for most sports.
"It's hard to pick a favorite sport," Collins said. "The build up for football is always so much fun and the energy level in volleyball has made it one of my favorites. But really, the energy at any college sports event has always been so exciting for me."
Though Collins is leaving the local area, he's excited that he will be coming across a lot of familiar faces at Chadron State.
"We have a lot of Panhandle athletes up there at the next level so it's going to be pretty exciting to see how they've progressed," Collins said.
