NEBRASKA AP ALL-STATE BASKETBALL TEAMS

Rosenbaum, Juelfs recognized on girls’ team

Two area players were named to the 2015 Nebraska Associated Press All-State girls basketball teams earlier this week as voted on by sports writers and sportscasters from around the state.

In Class B, senior Savanna Rosenbaum of Sidney High School earned the honor while Potter-Dix freshman Audrey Juelfs was named to the Class D1 squad. Both Rosenbaum and Juelfs were part successful teams. The Raiders finished at 17-8 before having their season end in the district finals. The Coyotes compiled a 15-5 mark and reached the sub-district semi’s.

Rosenbaum was one of only two players on the Raiders squad that significant varsity playing experience. She was a 5-11 starter at center and played in every game this season while leading the team in rebounds (4.9 rpg) and blocked shots averaging nearly one per game. Rosenbaum also averaged nearly six points per contest.

“Savanna did a great job this season,” said Raiders head coach Tyler Shaw. “She is tall and athletic enough to defend guards or posts. This allowed our defense to have a lot of diversity. She assumed a leadership role from the very beginning.”

Though just in her first year playing varsity basketball, Juelfs led the Coyotes in scoring at nearly 10 ppg. The Potter-Dix point guard scored a high of 21 versus Paxton on Dec. 13. Juelfs also topped the team in 3-point buckets made, steals and assists.

“It was awesome and well deserved to see Audrey picked as AP All-State Honorable Mention in her freshman year,” said Coyotes head coach Jeff Einspahr. “She has worked hard in the offseason and practice to get to this level of play and it shows in what she has accomplished on the court. Audrey is a great teammate and will do whatever it takes to see her team win.”
