The Peetz High baseball team went up against Merino’s ace pitcher on Monday afternoon and came up on the short end of a 12-1 five-inning final at home.
The Bulldogs (2-1) were stymied by Rams’ hurler Connor Fiscus, who didn’t allow a hit over four innings of work. Peetz managed to squeeze out its run in the fourth, however, with some aggressive base running by Jordan Nelson.
After Nelson drew a walk, he stole second, third and home to tally the run. Nelson was able to score after Logan Sircy, who walked behind him, stole second with Nelson on third. When the throw went to second, Nelson took off and scored.
“To be able to face the top pitcher from a team in a classification above us is a good experience,” said Bulldogs head coach Darrin Fehringer. “This was a tough loss, but it’s the kind of game we can learn from.”
Starter Cody Wilson (0-1) took the loss before Garrett Roelle came on in relief.
The Bulldogs game at Community Christian (Northglen, Colo.), originally scheduled for Thursday, has been rescheduled for Wednesday due to weather concerns. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
