Cabela's welcomes spring with 'Great Outdoors' event

Family activities, presentations among weekend festivities in Sidney

Cabela’s will celebrate the beginning of the thaw by hosting its annual Spring Great Outdoor Days this weekend.

The two-day event encouraging outdoorsmen and women to shift their focus from winter to spring activities. On tap will be seminars, demonstrations and cooking events for the entire family.

All of the events are free and open to the public. Kids who attend three different sessions will receive a free hat, while kids who attend five sessions will receive a free rod and reel combo.

Local industry experts will be in-store presenting tips and answering questions. They will include Lisa Thompson (archery), Chris Kniss (waterfowl) and Brent Curtice (fly fishing).

Also in attendance will be representatives from Operation Lifesaver, the Nebraska Games and Parks and the Nebraska Extension Office.

Cabela’s will hold workshops and in-store demonstrations with the following schedule:

Saturday

• Art of Fly Tying: 10 a.m.-3 p.m., The Big Mac Fly Fishing Club will be in-house doing hands on fly-tying.

• Wildlife Tracks Twister: 10 a.m.–Noon

• Backpacking, Go Take a Hike: 10 a.m.–Noon

• Hit Your Target: 10 a.m.–Noon

• Nebraska Out in the Wild Jeopardy: 1 p.m.-3 p.m.

• Calling All Turkeys: 1-3 p.m.

• Habitats & Homes: 1-3 p.m.

Sunday

• Keep Your Edge with Free Knife Sharpening: 10 a.m.-Noon

• Three Steps to a Comfortable Backpack: 1 p.m.

• Cabela’s Guide Wear Series: 2 p.m.

• Ins and Outs of Spring Archery Turkey Hunting: 3 p.m.

• Sonar, So New!: 4 p.m.
