New business provides convenient solution to dispose of yard waste

McBride's offers home pickup

As residents start to prepare for warmer weather and greener grass, it'll soon be the perfect time to work in the yard and remove what winter left behind.

However until recently, Sidney residents were forced to make special trips to the landfill, compost waste themselves or find an alternative solution to get rid of their yard waste.

Jonathan McBride, owner of McBride's Yard Waste, has created a convenient solution for residents to dispose of their yard waste for eight months beginning in April running until the end of November.

"It kind of happened randomly how the idea came up to start this business," McBride said. "One of my close friends just moved to Sidney in the summer from Scottsbluff and I'm originally from Cheyenne and we both had services that would pick up yard waste."

Sidney residents can now recycle their clippings, leaves and other yard waste with McBride's Yard Waste service that provides a weekly curbside waste pickup on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. A special pickup can also be requested in advance.

"It's nice to have someone else pick up your garbage and take it to the landfill," McBride said. "Now residents have the same option for their yard waste."

According to the McBride's Yard Waste website, yard waste on average makes up about 30 percent of all household waste. With this new service, yard waste that is collected will be deposited at the city compost site at the local landfill. After composted, the waste is used for fertilizing and conditioning soil.

After signing up, residents will receive a scheduled day for their pick up that begins at 7 a.m., an informational brochure and a 95-gallon yard waste cart that will be delivered a week before services begin. Households are allowed a maximum of three yard waste carts, with an additional fee per cart.

Waste including leaves, weeds, garden waste, small sticks and other small organic matter that is commonly found in yards are collected and should be placed directly in waste carts prior to the scheduled pick up day.

"You can sign up on the McBride's Yard Waste website or call to sign up for the service," McBride said. "I really want to encourage people to sign up early because of the March discount."

Prices for the curbside yard waste removal service range from $135.99 to $143.99 depending on how soon one signs up. A 15 percent discount will be received if those who are interested sign up before March 1, a 10 percent discount if signed up before April 1 and a five percent discount for paying in full throughout the season.

McBride's offers two payment options, including paying in full or setting up a monthly payment plan. Residents are given the option to pay online, by mail or over the phone.

"We will begin services the first Tuesday of April and the last pick up will be the last Wednesday in November," McBride said.
