Daughters of the American Revolution essay winners

Sidney residents and Peetz Plateau RE-5 students Alexah Fort and Clara Lichti were honored last weekend at a reception hosted by the Elbridge Gerry Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for their winning essays. Fort was selected as the seventh-grade winner and Lichti was named the eighth-grade winner. The students placed first in their grade levels against four other schools in the northeastern Colorado region. The essay contest was entitled: "A Child's View Through Ellis Island." The contest was coordinated locally by Virginia Splichal, a Peetz language arts teacher. Pictured, from left, are: Elbridge Gerry DAR representative Loretta Maxwell, Lichti and Fort.
