The Creek Valley High boys basketball team snapped its nine-game losing streak with a 37-28 win over the South Platte Blue Knights on Friday in non-district boys basketball action in Big Springs.
Though the Storm (4-12) opened up trailing after the first quarter 11-7, Creek Valley rallied in the second eight minutes to take a 24-18 lead by halftime. The Knights (1-15) managed to trim their deficit to four points after the third, but the Storm added to its winning margin in the fourth quarter.
Brett Godfrey was named player of the game with 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists and a steal. Colin Brott added 10 points, Keith Everitt seven and Dane McConnell six. Everitt led all rebounders with 10 with McConnell pulling down seven. Roy Koech had four assists.
Girls
Creek Valley 45, South Platte 27
The Creek Valley Lady Storm finished its regular season on a positive note with a 45-27 over the South Platte Lady Knights in Big Springs on Friday night.
The Storm put the hammer down early with a 16-4 advantage after the first eight minutes and were never seriously threatened afterwards. The Lady Knights saw their record dip to 2-14 on the season.
Caliche 74, Peetz 20
Sedgwick Co. 44, Peetz 35
The Lady Bulldogs challenged a pair of strong teams over the weekend and twice came up short.
Caliche continued its strong season with a 74-20 win on Friday to up their record to 16-1. On Saturday Sedgwick County (10-7) edged away in the second half to post a 44-35 win. Peetz record dropped to 8-10.
Jodi Schumacher led the Bulldogs in scoring in both contests with eight points against Caliche and 13 points at Sedgwick County. Mikenna Curlee and Whitney Christian each contributed with four points against the Buffaloes.
Christian added 10 points and eight rebounds against the Cougars while Schumacher also had eight boards and had a pair of steals.
