The Peetz Lady Bulldogs (7-8, 4-5) split a pair of 1A North Central League games over the weekend with a 39-33 win on the road over Weldon Valley (2-16, 1-8) on Saturday and a 52-33 loss at home to Briggsdale (12-4, 6-2) on Friday night.
While the Bulldogs were competitive throughout much of the game against the Briggsdale Lady Falcons at Carlile Gymnasium, a cold third quarter put them in a hole they couldn’t climb out of. The Bulldogs trailed 28-20 at the half but 10 more points were added to their deficit with a 12-2 third sealing their fate.
Jodi Schumacher led Peetz in scoring with 14 points with Mallori Bjerke and Jennifer Gutierrez each dropping in six. Schumacher also topped the charts in rebounds and steals with five and two respectively. Three players picked up four rebounds including Gutierrez, Mikenna Curlee and Bjerke.
Though Peetz again struggled through a sluggish third quarter against Weldon Valley, a strong first half helped propel the Bulldogs to victory. The ‘Dogs led 27-16 at the break but the lead was cut to just three to 30-27 after 24 minutes. Peetz rallied with a 9-6 advantage in the final frame to seal the win.
Schumacher again led the Bulldogs in scoring with nine points with Whitney Christian adding eight. Gutierrez, Cami Thompson and Bjerke each scored five points.
Bjerke was tops on the boards with eight including seven off the defensive glass. Curlee and Christian each pulled down five boards.
The Bulldogs are in action again on Tuesday when they travel to Potter to take on the Coyotes at about 6 p.m.
