Lady Warriors rally past Creek Valley, 45-40

Leyton recovers from early deficit

The Leyton Lady Warriors (8-10) overcame a seven point first-quarter deficit to post a 45-40 victory over the Creek Valley Lady Storm (6-10) on Friday at Chappell in a non-district contest.

The Warriors fell behind 13-6 after eight minutes but rallied to take a 22-20 halftime lead. Leyton was able to add an addtional three points to its margin over the third eight minutes before fighting to an 11-11 draw over the final period.

Kaitlyn Berner was tops in scoring for the Warriors with 13 points while Diedra Waite finished with 11. Dani McKay and Shaela Jenkins tacked on eight and six points respectively. Jenkins work on the boards put her on top of her teammates with 11 rebounds. Berner's night included six assists, two steals and a pair of blocks.

For the Storm, freshman Payje Misegadis was impressive in defeat with 11 points, 15 rebounds and three steals. Jessie Straber sank nine points and Allie Blackwelder eight with Hannah Schievelbein and Jill Behrends each accounting for six. Schievelbein also had four blocks and Straber robbed Leyton of four possessions.

The Warriors travel to Bayard to face the Lady Tigers at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Creek Valley is also on the road Tuesday when it travels to Grant to meet Perkins County with a 5:30 p.m. start.
